predatory mites for thrips
These are the exact same beneficial mites we’ve been using in our shrubyard and greenhouse over the last few years — and we’ve had incredible success.
The key isn’t waiting until you see a major infestation.
The key is consistency.
Even when there is minimal to no evidence of thrip activity, we continue releasing beneficial insects on schedule. Thrips are constantly introduced into garden centers and home gardens through new plants, soil, and seasonal plantings, so prevention is everything.
Last fall, before the thrip population ever got high, we started releasing beneficial insects on a schedule created specifically for us. We stayed consistent all summer and fall, even when activity was low… and the result was highly controlled — almost completely controlled — thrip populations across the shrubyard.
This same approach is simple to replicate in a home garden setting.
